The Hubble has been one of the most important telescopes ever to enter into operation, and it served for 17 long
and proud years, providing some of the most stunning images ever beheld by man. The total cost of operating the
Hubble came out to be something on the order of 5 billion dollars, which led a lot of people to criticize the whole
project seeing as the forecast expenses were put somewhere around 500 million dollars. Nonetheless, the Hubble
telescope pictures more than compensated this and in the end it has been a spectacular success.
Errors Corrected
The biggest success to be had with the Hubble was the fact that many of its initial defects were successfully
fixed. When the Hubble telescope first began sending images back to scientists at the labs there were several
problems that had to be worked on, all of them leading to incredibly low quality Hubble telescope pictures.
Fortunately within very little time scientists and engineers were able to reverse this situation and the results
have been magnificent.
The Hubble telescope pictures have given scientists and astronomers with a wealth of information that they
otherwise wouldn’t have had access to, especially if they were to be relying on other image sources based on
cameras positioned here on earth. The Hubble telescope pictures were not only of a vastly superior quality but the
power of the lenses was also much greater, thereby allowing scientists views into the deepest recesses of space
ever observed by science.
One of the biggest costs to be occasioned by the Hubble telescope comes from the fact that it orbits at a very
particular height, about three hundred miles above the surface of the planet. From this position the Hubble
telescope pictures have proven to be simply outstanding, and the satellite’s final operational run was scheduled
for September of 2008 before going into the shop for repairs. After further fixes the telescope should continue
providing even more brilliant images of space.
The glory of the Hubble telescope is its ability to capture incredibly high resolution and crisp, detailed
photos without having to travel very far from our planet -- something that would imply too much cost. If we had to
send it way out into space to send back the awesome Hubble telescope pictures then the practicality of the device
would be cancelled.
The Hubble telescope pictures are stored in an archive after being taken and then they are relayed back to
scientists on earth eagerly awaiting them in their labs. These photos have helped to unravel many incredible
mysteries of the universe. For example, using Hubble telescope pictures scientists have more accurately calculated
the age of the universe, which is now thought to be between 12 and 14 billion years -- a much more accurate
estimate than what we had before the launching of the Hubble.
The biggest legacy that the Hubble leaves us comes in the form of the Hubble Deep Field as well as the Hubble
Ultra Deep Field images; these Hubble telescope pictures have laid the groundwork for many future discoveries of
great importance. From documenting objects in our own galaxy to unlocking secrets of infinitely remote objects,
there is hardly anything the Hubble hasn’t helped us accomplish!
